Wine is my passion. Especially food and wine pairing. I had a wonderful customer facing career for 34 years and ran my own very successful business for 25 of those.
My wine knowledge was something I developed in my spare time, before deciding it was time to prove that this was more than a hobby- that’s when I started professional training. I have achieved an internationally recognised wine qualification –WSET level 3 (Merit) from the International Wine School in London, practical sommelier skills, and a qualification in spirits too – and I’m still learning!
I’ve been in restaurants where the sommelier is out to prove how much they know and how inferior the customer’s knowledge is. NO NO NO I scream inside – this is not right, everyone deserves to go out and spend their hard earned cash on wine that makes them feel good and enhances their meal. Not be intimidated and end up wishing they’d ordered the house wine after all. I’ve also been in many restaurants with such unimaginative overpriced wine lists that I end up wishing I’d brought my own.
